Worth the longer day
Civita di Bagnoregio, Arezzo, Siena and Montepulciano are all reachable as a longer day out, and Rome and Florence both sit on the same rail line as Orvieto’s own station — a genuine advantage for a stay that wants a city day without a city hotel.
Perugia’s airport is roughly an hour from the estate; Rome Fiumicino is closer to two. Either way, the drive up from the valley ends the same way — through the gate, past the olive trees, to the pool with Orvieto on the ridge behind it.
